Lesbian couple finally gets a break

A candidate for the Saddest Story Ever Award was eliminated from the running yesterday when the Board of Freeholders of Ocean County New Jersey voted to extend pension benefits to the female partner of dying policewoman Laurel Hester. Hester had terminal lung cancer, and without benefits her partner would have been not only widowed but forced to give up the couple’s house. Fortunately the freeholders are now likely to extend spousal benefits to same-sex domestic partners as well.

Thanks to Broadsheet for keeping The Annalog up-to-date on Hester. The Saddest Story Ever contest is now an open field, with a highway collision between a baby truck and a bunny tanker ahead by a nose.
