Red shoes

I basically agree with Maureen Dowd in her recent retrospective/post-mortem of the feminist movement. My generation is rejecting the ideals of feminism without really giving them a good try. But modern girls do actually have ideas of their own. For instance: to complain of objectification every time we see a woman’s picture is to condemn the female body as an object. It’s like saying women have no connection to their bodies, that once a man looks at a woman she becomes inanimate, like a doorknob.

You’ve got to live in your body, Ms. Dowd, so you might as well like it. Which doesn’t mean you have to learn how to poledance, or become a submissive sex slave to a man. But it does mean that when you put on a pair of hot shoes and pose all sexy in a bar, you better cop to it.
